Fried Tofu, Lemon Chicken Style

Introduction

This is undoubtedly one of my family’s favorite dishes of mine. Because it can accompany almost any dish, (see serving suggestions below) it makes for a very easy, very quick meat alternative for dinner, lunch, or even breakfast. I’ve made it for Chinese dishes, Greek dishes, and good old fashioned American dishes as well which just proves that Lemon Chicken style Fried Tofu and go with almost anything.

Yields

One hungry person

Preparation time

10-15 minutes

Utilities needed

Flat dish for marinade
Non-stick frying pan
Stove

Ingredients needed

1/2 a brick of firm tofu
Braggs Liquid Aminos
brewer’s yeast (nutritional yeast)
lemon juice or lemon pepper
extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil (or similar)
freshly ground pepper
powered onion
powered garlic
paprika

How to make it

Step 1: Heat up a frying pan (preferably non-stick) to medium-high heat. Do the water test to verify heat is adequate. If it is not, adjust accordingly. When temperature is right, add a bit of oil. Use sparingly, and just enough to lightly coat the pan.

Step 2: Slice brick of tofu into 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick slices.

Step 3: In a flat dish, add about two tablespoons of lemon juice (to taste), a pinch or so of onion power, a pinch of garlic, 1 1/2 or so tablespoons of brewers yeast, a dash or so of paprika, a pinch of freshly ground pepper, and about 5 tablespoons of Braggs Liquid Aminos. If the marinade is too dry (it should be thick and relatively free-flowing, but not clumping), add more Braggs. You can taste the marinade if need be - since these are not exact proportions, more of a certain ingredient may be needed. Be aware that the marinade, of course, is concentrated.

Step 4: Drip slices of tofu in marinade. Make sure they are completely covered by the marinade. Then, drop slices in the heated frying pan. Fry until cooked side is golden brown, then flip and do the same for the other side. If desired, sprinkle a bit of brewers yeast on the slices before frying - this kicks up the distinct, chicken-like taste. You can also spray a bit of the Braggs Liquid Amos if the slices need more of a salty taste.

Serving Suggestions

Serve with rice, noodles, vegetables, potatoes, in sandwiches, with Quinoa salad, or even on toasted bread with bit of HP (or A1) sauce, black pepper and a tomato.

You can dice it and put it in salad, leave it as-is, or crumble it and serve scrambled tofu, a (much more delicious) substitute for scrambled eggs.
